Service Unites, powered by Points of Light, will be held in Atlanta, June 18-20
ATLANTA, April 19, 2018 – Service Unites, the world’s largest conference on service and volunteering will feature a number of high-profile actors, authors and athletes all of whom make giving back and sparking change a priority. Speakers at the 2018 Service Unites conference, powered by Points of Light, include Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Coty Sensabaugh and his wife, Dominique; Syrian-American Muslim slam poet Amal Kassir; and 11-year-old Disney Junior star and entrepreneur Trinitee Stokes.
Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Coty Sensabaugh met his artist wife Dominique while they were attending Clemson University. They married four years later in 2016, and instead of a traditional honeymoon, they traveled to the Dominican Republic where they delivered shoes to children and their families in need. They have since been back to the Dominican Republic and Haiti multiple times to distribute shoes, along with a recent trip to Puerto Rico in March to provide shoes for citizens still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Both Coty and Dominique say their grandmothers instilled the value of volunteerism and altruism in them, and they intend to do the same for their new son, Marri. The Sensabaughs will join a discussion on family volunteering during the Opening Plenary.
Amal Kassir is a Syrian-American Muslim slam poet/public speaker from Denver. Kassir has conducted workshops and lectures, given TED Talks and recited poetry in 10 countries on the subjects of youth prisons, orphanages, refugee camps, identity, churches and culture. She is a major proponent of education for the underserved and vulnerable populations, and aspires to be part of the global effort for literacy in war-struck areas and refugee camps. Kassir will speak about women and identity as part of the Opening Plenary.
Though only 11 years old, Trinitee Stokes is not only a Disney star, but also an entrepreneur and philanthropist. In 2013, she unveiled her own fashion line, Designs by Trinitee, a collection of fun, colorful and sparkly clothing line for the tween demographic. As an advocate for literacy, she hosts several book drives a year and delivers the donated books to children’s homes and shelters in the Los Angeles area. Stokes will be speaking about family volunteering at the Opening Plenary.
The Sensabaughs, Kassir and Stokes will join a list of distinguished speakers who have participated in previous Service Unites events, including Points of Light Chairman Neil Bush; actress Yara Shahidi; former first lady Michelle Obama; U.S. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi; comedian John Oliver; author Cheryl Strayed; musician Harry Connick Jr.; U.S. Congressman John Lewis; and former President Jimmy Carter. New speakers and guests for the 2018 Service Unites conference are being confirmed every day.
Early-bird registration for Service Unites is open. Registering before April 22 saves up to $200 per pass.
