Carol K. Nelson, Pacific region sales executive and Seattle market president for KeyBank, is responsible for leading resources across Washington, Oregon, and Alaska while directing sales efforts to drive revenue and growth within Key’s commercial and private banking businesses. Prior to joining KeyBank in January 2015, Carol was the agency director and CEO of the Department of Revenue for the State of Washington, as well as a member of the executive cabinet for the Governor.
Carol is uniquely qualified to lead Key’s Pacific region, bringing tremendous experience to this role including 10 years as president, CEO of Cascade Financial Corporation and Cascade Bank where she successfully transformed the company from a savings bank to a community bank serving businesses, commercial real estate builders and developers, and consumers. Prior to joining Cascade, Carol spent 24 years at Seafirst/Bank of America in a variety of commercial banking and retail banking roles.
A graduate of Seattle University, Carol holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s degree in business administration. She was awarded Seattle University’s Professional Achievement Award in 2005 and is a past member of the board of trustees. Carol also attended Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government in 2014, earning a certificate as a senior executive in state and local government.
Active in civic endeavors, Carol is a member of the board of the Washington Roundtable, the Downtown Seattle Association, Federal Reserve of San Francisco Seattle Branch, and Pacific Bankers Management Institute. In 2016, she served as chair of the American Heart Association’s Puget Sound “Go Red for Women” campaign. She is a past board chair of United Way of Snohomish County, where she led the Community Campaign and received the Reeves/Sievers Founders’ Award in recognition of a lifetime of community service and the spirit of philanthropy.
Carol and her husband are longtime residents of Edmonds, Washington, and they have two grown sons.
