Angelina Zevallos

Youth Volunteer, Community Advocate

Angelina Zevallos founded Youth Voice Activate, a community project, to ease the crisis of homelessness in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her goal was to support diverse communities in key areas, such as asset-based community development, leadership development, and collaborative work with the homeless population to alleviate the issue. This community project has grown, now partnering with other organizations such as Mercy House, Shiloh Church, COPIA, and Cal Habitat to provide donated goods such as food, beverages, toiletries, and meal and care package preparation. Through these collaborations, YVA has served more than 350 homeless people and continues to advocate with them for social change.

In addition to her work supporting the homeless, Angelina has partnered with others in her community to provide STEM/STEAM-based programs for minority youth. Alongside YVA volunteers, they have begun to host events that provide organized stations of fun, science-related activities for youth in Richmond, California.

This fall, Angelina will be attending the University of California, Berkeley. She was proud to be named a 2017 Hasbro Community Action Hero through generationOn, the youth division of Points of Light.

What Others Are Saying

The emphasis on cross-sector collaboration was eye-opening, and everyone I met walked away with fresh perspectives and ideas. It broke down the silos of inward-facing sectors and showed us how much more powerful our work can be when we come together. An unbeatable experience!

The conference proved to be one of the most engaging and exciting professional gatherings of like-minded people I've ever attended. Although the topics, content, and presentations all appropriately centered around volunteering and service in some way, the sheer range of them was simply astounding.
