Adam Rippon

American Olympic Figure Skater

Before he even stepped onto the ice at the 2018 Winter Olympics, American figure skater Adam Rippon made history as the first openly gay U.S. male athlete to qualify for the Winter Games. The Scranton, Pennsylvania, native continued to make headlines as he competed in the prestigious competition, ultimately earning the bronze medal as part of the figure skating team event.

After he served as the alternate for Team USA at the 2010 Games in Vancouver and became the U.S. National Champion in his sport in 2016, Adam achieved his Olympic dream in 2018 in Pyongyang, South Korea, where, at the age of 28, he was the oldest figure skater since 1939 to make their first trip to the games. An outspoken voice and inspiration for the LGBTQ+ community, he became the first openly gay athlete to medal at the Winter Olympics.

Adam has gained international attention for his personality off the ice as well. Dubbed “one of the most entertaining athletes at the winter games,” by Billboard, Adam has built a massive following with his sharp on-air candor, insightful comments about LGBTQ+ issues, and quick-witted social media posts.

What Others Are Saying

The emphasis on cross-sector collaboration was eye-opening, and everyone I met walked away with fresh perspectives and ideas. It broke down the silos of inward-facing sectors and showed us how much more powerful our work can be when we come together. An unbeatable experience!

The conference proved to be one of the most engaging and exciting professional gatherings of like-minded people I've ever attended. Although the topics, content, and presentations all appropriately centered around volunteering and service in some way, the sheer range of them was simply astounding.
